Bring a phone with location on, and a Lightning wallet that gives you an address ending in @… (not a long bitcoin address that starts with bc1).
Wallets that work well for a first receive
- Wallet of Satoshi — fastest setup; it gives you something like you@walletofsatoshi.com
- Phoenix — self-custodial; tap Receive and copy your Lightning address
- Strike — if you already use it; copy your Lightning address from the app
Skip on-chain-only wallets for this step. You need Lightning.
At the statue
- Open the statue page on satoshistatues.com and tap 📍 Check in here (stay within about 150 m, location allowed).
- You’ll get that city’s card in your passport.
- If this statue pays free sats, enter your Lightning address, confirm you’re 18+, and tap claim. You’ve got a short window, so do it before you walk away.
- You should see a confirmation that free sats are on the way to your address. Open your wallet: the balance ticks up, usually within a few seconds.
Show a friend
Have them install the same wallet before you go, check in from their own phone, and claim to their own address. One payout per address at each statue, so sharing one wallet won’t work twice.
